Research
Professor
Stein Sture's research interests are in the areas Geomechanics, Geotechnical
Engineering, Structural and Solid Mechanics.
Experimental
and Analytical Modeling
Studies
of constitutive and fracture behavior, and stability properties of geomaterials,
such as cohesionless and cohesive soils, lunar and Mars regolith, and
rocks, and cementitious materials, such as concrete.
Computational
Mechanics
Integration schemes for constitutive equations, nonlinear solution techniques,
and finite elasto-plastic deformations.
Mechanics
of Granular Materials
The
mechanics of granular materials subjected to very low effective stresses,
which has included two sets of in-space experiments on board the Space
Shuttle.
